After a major fire on December 10, 2000, the SAE chapter house at the University of Texas suffered extensive damage, leaving many undergraduates homeless. Overcoming this tragedy required them to partially rebuild and renovate the facility. Through a capital fundraising campaign, the following improvements were made for fire reconstruction:
-
Created a safe living environment with the installation of sprinklers and fire-rated,
self-closing doors -
Installed state-of-the-art computer technology in the study areas to connect the undergraduates to the University Ethernet
-
Provided for air conditioning, heating, and upgraded plumbing systems
-
Improved educational amenities including private and group study rooms
-
Remodeled kitchen, house manager's apartment, and dining room
-
Replaced living room, chapter room, and dormitory
-
Enhanced the entire house interior with new carpeting, paint, furniture, and lighting
